Week Sixteen Highlights

Just For Parents:

  • On Tuesday, December 17th, our class will have the opportunity to visit the Holiday Shop! This is optional. If you would like, pleased send your child with money in the envelop that was already sent home attached to the paper about the Holiday Shop on Monday or Tuesday of next week.
  • Our party is next week on Thursday, December 19th. Sadly we cannot have every parent there, so please only come if you have signed up as a volunteer! Thank you for being respectful of this!
  • Here is the volunteer schedule for this upcoming week: Volunteers! Feel free to add your name to an open slot.

Celebrations:

  • We earned our 20-star prize this week and celebrated with pajama day! Each of your kiddos looked SO cute!
  • Quote of the Week – The quote that we focused on and tried to live out this week was, “You don’t need a cape to be a hero, you just need to care.” This week’s quote went to MAKINLEY who is always showing kindness to others and is especially a great helper for Miss Raisch!

  • First Grade Family Time – This week we celebrated awards for lost teeth, shoe-tying, and birthdays. Here are our “award-winning” first graders from this week!

Our Learning:

  • Writing – This week we looked at published nonfiction books that we have been reading to help us as we write one final nonfiction book of our own to publish!
  • Word Study – We practiced matching word beginnings and endings to make new words and continued to learn new important word endings!
  • Math – This week students wrapped up unit 3 of math focusing on word problems and did so great on their tests! These will be coming home sometime next week.
  • Reading – Kiddos shared new words that they were discovering in their nonfiction books and searched for key words during their reading time.
  • Holidays Around the World – This week we traveled to several new countries! In Germany we made gingerbread houses with our 4th grade buddies which was SO much fun! In the Netherlands we decorated shoes and left them out overnight for Sinterklaas to fill them with a special treat. Ask your students about what we did in Australia and India as well!
