Week Thirteen Highlights

Just For Parents:

  • I have enjoyed seeing the disguised turkeys that your kiddos are bringing into school! These are due Tuesday, November 26.
  • Here is the volunteer schedule for this week: Volunteers! Feel free to add your name to an open slot.

Celebrations:

  • Quote of the Week – The quote that we focused on and tried to live out this week was, “Why fit in when you were born to stand out?” This week’s quote went to ELIJAH who is always himself and stands out with his GREAT sense of humor!

  • First Grade Family Time – This week we celebrated awards for lost teeth, shoe-tying, and birthdays. Here are our “award-winning” first graders from this week!

Our Learning:

  • Writing – I am loving the expert, non-fiction stories that students are writing! We made writing goals and worked on editing our pieces and teaching a partner.

  • Word Study – This week we studied the endings on words (ex. -ed, -ing, -s/es) and discovered that -ed makes three different sounds.
  • Reading – Students practiced taking a sneak peek and learned that just one page can teach us SO much through the words and pictures! On Friday, we studied bats and learned about how they are nocturnal. We enjoyed some “nocturnal reading” in the dark with our flashlights to help!

  • Math – This week students ROCKED it out on our most recent quiz focusing on addition and subtraction word problems! We are focusing on using math mountains, pictures, and equations to help us out.

Upcoming Dates:

  • Monday, November 25 – STEAM
  • Tuesday, November 26 – Music
  • No school the rest of the week!
