Week Twelve Highlights

Just For Parents:

  • Thank you to everyone who has volunteered as a Mystery Reader in my classroom! We have many openings for after Winter Break, but a closer opening on December 5th that I would love someone to sign up for! Here is the link: mystery reader schedule
  • Book fair is this week! Feel free to stop by during parent-teacher conferences to check it out. Our class will be visiting the book fair to make our wish lists on Tuesday and then students will have the opportunity to bring money and purchase books on Thursday.
  • I will be placing our scholastic book order this Friday, November 22nd. If you are interested in purchasing a book, please place an online order or send back the form with your student.
  • Just a friendly reminder that parent-teacher conferences are this week! I look forward to seeing you at your assigned time on either Monday or Wednesday!
  • I have enjoyed seeing the disguised turkeys that your kiddos are bringing into school! These are due Tuesday, November 26.
  • Here is the volunteer schedule for this week: Volunteers! Feel free to add your name to an open slot.

Celebrations:

  • Our class earned our star prize this week! We celebrated on Tuesday afternoon with some free choice time on the iPads to honor the hard work that your kiddos have been doing.
  • Quote of the Week – The quote that we focused on and tried to live out this week was, “Do the right thing, even when no one is looking.” This week’s quote went to EMERY who is always a role model.
  • First Grade Family Time – This week we celebrated awards for lost teeth, shoe-tying, and birthdays. Here are our “award-winning” first graders from this week!

Our Learning:

  • Writing – This week we explored the differences between nonfiction and fiction texts and began writing information books about topics that we are experts on!
  • Word Study – We finished solving our cases from the Super Secret Detective Agency by studying compound words and using words we already know to help sound out tricker words.
  • Reading – As detectives, we used magnifying glasses to find vowel teams (ex. ea, ee,) and words with apostrophes.

  • Math – Students continued to practice both addition and subtraction math problems with unknown partners. This is definitely a tricky concept, but our kiddos are persevering and doing a great job.
  • Social/Emotional – This week we talked about the different parts of our brain and how they respond in different situations and help keep us safe.
  • 4th Grade Buddies – On Friday we got together with our 4th grade buddies and practiced gratitude by writing thank you cards to staff in our building!
