Week Eleven Highlights

Just For Parents:

  • I was out of the classroom Monday afternoon for a training and unexpectedly all day Thursday with the flu, but your kiddos did an amazing job and received great reports from the substitute teachers!
  • Here is the volunteer schedule for this week: Volunteers! Feel free to add your name to an open slot.

Celebrations:

  • Quote of the Week – The quote that we focused on and tried to live out this week was, “Never look down on someone unless you’re helping them up.” This week’s quote went to AVA who is always looking out for others, especially friends who are sad or hurting.
  • First Grade Family Time – This week we celebrated awards for lost teeth, shoe-tying, and birthdays. Here are our “award-winning” first graders from this week!

Our Learning:

  • Writing – We wrapped up our how-to stories this week! Students will be bringing these home on Monday, and they are excited to share them with you.
  • Word Study – This week we had Snap Word Bootcamp, where we learned a lot of snap words through different exercises! Later on, we received some secret case files from the Super Secret Detective Agency and investigated letter twins (ex. getting) and sticky letters (ex. three, stripe).

  • Reading – We practiced making our reading smooth to sound more like talking and used the beginning of words to help us solve the whole word.
  • Math – Students used many different strategies to solve addition problems with unknown partners such as 4 + __ = 10 or __ + 2 = 6.
  • Social/Emotional – Our class read Little Penguin Calms Down and are beginning to learn how we also can calm our bodies and minds down when we get upset.
