First Grade Reading Notes

Here are three important notes about reading in first grade:

  1. First graders do not have any homework packets this year, BUT your child still has homework to do! We expect every first grader to read at home for 20 minutes each day. This is essential for your child’s reading growth this year! Check the back of your child’s blue folder to see some ideas of ways to fill that 20 minute reading time.
  2. Our class goes to the library on Fridays. Please be sure your first grader returns his or her library book to school every Friday so he or she can check out a new book!
  3. This Friday, your child will begin to come home with a “take-home book” bag. Please have your child read this book and return it to school the next day so he/she can get another book. We will be switching out our take-home books almost daily! (Parents, I am still looking for a few more volunteers to help with take-home books! If you are available, please sign up at this link, or send me an email. Thank you SO much in advance)!
